Concrete slab is completed for new 24 x 24 garage in The Highlands subdivision in Chesterfield Co.
The foundation consists of 8″ base block followed by a 4″ block above grade with a brick veneer.
18″ galvanized anchor bolts are installed according to the Va statewide building code.
Slab prep included 16 tons of #57 stone that was placed at a 4″ inch thickness.
A 6 mil poly vapor barrier was install on top of gravel to control moisture migrating thru new concrete slab.
The slab is 3000 psi concrete and poured to a thickness of 4″.
Excess gravel will be used for the drain-tile and driveway work yet to be completed.

Here are some final photos of a 16′ x 20′ garage project in Powhatan Virginia.
The detached structure that has a brick and block foundation and exterior to match the home.
Footings were dug to a depth of 18″and 20″ in width. We then poured 3000 PSI concrete at an 8″ thickness.
The foundation has 8″ base block and 4″ above grade with a brick veneer. Fasteners for the foundation are a 1/2″ x 18″ hot dipped galvanized anchor bolt and are spaced according to the Virginia state wide uniform building code.
For the floor we had 57 stone gravel delivered. We placed the stone in at a 4″ depth and 6 mil poly over the entire floor surface. Concrete will be poured at a 4″ thickness with perimeter expansion joints place in concrete to allow for potential slab movement. The framing starts with a 2 x 8 pressure treated sill plate that is bolted to the foundation with hot dipped galvanized 1/2″ anchor bolt. We then framed the walls with 105″ framing studs and created 4 openings in the garage for 1-8′ door and 3-equally spaced windows on each remaining wall. Header sizes are doubled 2 x 10′s and 2 x 8′s respectively. The entire exterior will be sheathed with 7/16″ OSB. Box trusses with a 10/12 pitch will be installed for upper storage area that will be accessed thought the front of the building above the 8′ door. We will be updating this and other projects so please check back soon. The siding we used is Norandex Cambridge beaded siding in the color of wheat. The cornice on the garage is white vinyl vented soffit and PVC aluminum trim coil. Windows for this project are white vinyl with grids and were manufactured by Plygem. The doors are powder coated carriage style and hinged with forged hardware. They were made in Virginia at Willis Mountain Sales in Farmville Va. Finally after days of rain we were able to get the vinyl siding installed on this 16′ x 20′ detached garage in Powhatan VA. The siding we used is Norandex Cambridge beaded siding in the color of wheat. The cornice on the garage is white vinyl vented soffit and PVC aluminum trim coil. Windows for this project are white vinyl with grids and were manufactured by Plygem. We will be pouring the slab and installing the doors in the next few days so stay tuned! Here is another progress photo of a 16′ x 20′ detached garage in Powhatan Va. In this photo you can see that the framing is completed and the shingles have been installed. We used a box truss for the attic area on the garage for a storage loft. The garage has 3 new constructon windows. We will be building the loft and hinged doors on the front for this garage. The shingles are a asphault dimensional with a 30 year warranty. Gaf/Elk is the manufacturer of the shingles.http://www.gaf.com/ The roof system includes ice and water shield for the overhangs and ridge vent with cap shingles. We used a matching Lawrenceville http://www.lawrencevillebrick.co/ Carters Grove over sized brick with Roanoke http://www.titanamerica.com/products/cement/virginia.php type S buff mortar. All products to this point have been produced in Virginia.

We have now installed the siding and trim on this attached garage in Chester Va. We installed mastic http://www.mastic.com/ beaded vinyl siding and vinyl soffit as well as aluminum trim to all cornice work on garage fascia, rakes and frieze boards. Before covering these areas we installed 1 x 6 wood trim boards and typar http://www.typar.com/ vapor barrier to all sidewalls of garage. We installed the brick using wall ties, galvanized steel lintels for openings and Old Colonial type S Mortar.
