This PVC  decking project in Midlothian Va consisted of removing all existing deck boards and railings. We added extra framing for installation of the perimeter border and the angled decking. The products that we used on this project are Timbertech Evolutions PVC and composite  decking and white Radiance railings  http://www.timbertech.com/.  The decking was installed using Tigerclaw hidden fastener system http://www.deckfastener.com/.  All toe kicks, risers and band boards are covered with PVC white 1 x material.Evolutions is a new hybrid decking which incorporates composite decking as the core and a PVC coating to the exterior for a more durability decking option than traditional composite.

These photos are the before and after photos of a new set of pressure treated steps off of Lucks Ln in Chesterfield Co.

After over 20 years these steps were ready to be replaced. The steps have started to sag and do not meet today’s building codes.

We removed the original stairs and hauled away the debris. Per the customers request we narrowed the width of the stairs down a bit.

New 2 x 12 stringers were cut at the site (no pre-cuts from your local home improvement warehouse) Stringers need to be cut on site because the measurement of the height and length are fundamental in getting the proper tread length and height.

Post are placed on concrete blocks as required by Virginia building code.

Other code issues that we updated by replacing these stairs are toe kicks on front of steps, picket spacing and rail height.

Deck remodel in Chester now has been completed.

We first removed all of the existing railings, lattice, flooring and deck framing that was inadequate. New footings were dug and code compliant concrete blocks are installed. We re-supported the deck and installed new decking using coated screws as well as hot dipped galvanized bolts to to secure the decking and railing materials. Band board and beams are doubled 2 x 10′s. Floor joist are 2x 8′s that can span up to 11’8″ but are only spanning 8′on this particular application. Rail post are 4 x 4 pressure treated and are installed by notching 25% of the size of the lumber and blocked between floor joist for a minimum 200lb load for safety. Flooring was installed using a coated screw fastener for virtually no movement that may occur with nailing floor decking. Please feel free to contact us for a free estimate on your next remodeling project.
